Once the Province of Valencia,s Capital City, is steeped in history, yet its boulevards with lush trees provide a natural canopy for the numerous fashionable shops, cafes and bars. Wander the streets, plazas and parks of Xativa / Jativa and you will discover an array of places of interest on almost every corner such as museums, theatres medieval churches and municipal buildings as well as aristocratic palaces and ancestral homes, with fresco paintings in the patios, gardens and stone fountains (Xativa/Jativa is said to have thousand fountains!). Birthplace of the painter José De Ribera, also known as El Españoleto, two Popes from the Borja Dynasty and the site of Europe’s first ever paper mill in the XI century, this region firmly marks its place in the history books. The star of it's historical monuments, however, has to be its Castle, overlooking the town and set on top of the Sierra Del Castillo. The whole area is declared as being of cultural interest because it shelters abundant remains of Iberian, Roman, Visigoth and Arabic settlements as well as the walls and towers that lead down from the Castle to the town.

Cuisine

The effects of Arabic culture and the culinary traditions of the area have combined in Xativa/Jativa, coming to form in an exquisite menu catering for all tastes. Rice, as always in the Valencian community, is the principal ingredient in the majority of the dishes. On the other hand, the desserts are another good example of gastronomic traditions. L'Almoixavena and Arnadí, stand out as delicious sweets that can be found on the dessert menus of the most prestigious restaurants.

Sports

The sporting possibilities are innumerable; the municipality has three complete sport centres with facilities for swimming, basketball, tennis, pelota, indoor football, volleyball and athletics. Football fans have the opportunity of seeing the ‘La Murta’ stadium, home to one of the historical regional teams of the Spanish football league, while children have several 11 a side football pitches and one 7 a side pitch. This beautiful region also has an environment ideal for trekking. Climb up to the Castle or visit the surroundings in which visitors can discover the rich history of the La Costera municipality. Of course there are also hundreds of treks in the beautiful countryside that surrounds Xativa/Jativa.

Just 40 minutes from the airport, Spain’s 3rd largest city, Valencia, and the sandy beaches of the Costa Blanca Xativa/Jativa really has plenty to offer; history, modern cafés, bars and restaurants, commercial centres, theatres, cinemas and parks. The countryside that surrounds it is also something to be admired. Awash with fruit trees such as orange, mandarin and lemon along with numerous almond, cherry and apricot; springtime blossom in Xativa/Jativa (from February to May) is an incredible spectacle in itself.
